Ratan Tata is not only an inspiration to the aspiring businessmen but also to a lot of youngsters only because he never fails to evolve. During the tough times of pandemic, several established organisations were hit badly but the stability of Ratan Tata and his companies did not fail in maintaining the faith of their stakeholders. And when we heard Ratan Tata talk about ideologies a business should work on, it clarified the solidity behind their consistent growth. We can call them the ‘Golden rules of Leadership’ that would help the leaders to fight the post covid-19 situation at the workplace.

To stay relevant, stay connected to the youngsters

The energy youngsters exude is infectious and can easily rub off on you which eventually helps you in growing younger than older. Ratan Tata shared, “I have always enjoyed the company of spirited and enthusiastic youth of the country. Their energy is truly infectious, and they make me feel like I haven’t aged at all.” The best part about staying connected to the younger stakeholders at work is that you know the pulse of youth today which makes for meaty stakeholders for any business.

Stay united

While you expect your employees to stick around in tough times of the company, you should also aim at giving them strong support in their dip moments. As an organisation, we must stand together to fight it out as one and this will instigate us in delivering great results. Ratan Tata backed this philosophy and addressed the leaders, “We can all unite and we need to unite to find solutions and put an end to this crisis.”

Be available for your employees

Tata is one of the most employee-friendly companies in India and no doubt about that because Ratan Tata believes in the policy of being answerable to the employees as well. He shared, “As a business leader, you have to face your shareholders. And then, there are the people who have to deliver the goods and work for you, you need to be there for them as well.”

Create empathy

If your employees are as concerned about the workplace as they are for their home, it will lead to an empathetic relationship which eventually translates into better results, productivity and profits. So work toward builidng empathy and making it a comfortable enviornment for your employees.

Laying off is not a solution

The lockdown led to several people losing their jobs. Despite the prime minister requesting businesses to not lay off people, most or the organisations laid off employees in big numbers. Ratan Tata believed in sticking to his people. He asked leaders, “Is laying off people going to solve the problem ? It won’t” and suggested to believe in their people in these tough times. He added, “Companies need to react in the right way for the people who serve & work with them.”
